Module 4 · Respite and Residential Aged Care

Welcome

Welcome to the fourth module in our series, ‘Respite and Residential Aged Care‘.

If you and your loved one are considering residential aged care for either respite or to stay permanently, this can be a challenging time. Our loved ones often respond to these suggestions with resistance, often caused by fear and grief. But for some of us, there will come a time when adequate care can no longer be provided at home, and we need to find the best place possible to deliver that extra care.

Our aim is to provide you with valuable tools, tips, and support to help you navigate through this process with confidence.

These modules are designed to help carers. A carer is a person who provides unpaid practical and emotional support to someone with a disability, chronic or life-limiting illness, mental ill health, has alcohol or other drug dependence or who is frail or aged.

Carer Gateway/Care2Serve are here to support carers, offering free access to practical advice and support.

Call Carer Gateway and register as a carer – 1800 422 737 (press 1 at the menu).

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands and waters upon which we work, live, and sustain ourselves. This land was never ceded, and we acknowledge that the Tasmanian Aboriginal people are its continuing custodians. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

We welcome, support and include carers who may identify as LGBTIQA+, carers with disabilities or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

We value and respect the diversity of carers, their lived and living experiences, and recognise that carers are the experts in their own lives.
