Module 6 · Caring for the carer

Welcome

Welcome to the sixth module in our series, ‘Caring for the Carer‘.

These modules are designed to help carers. A carer is a person who provides unpaid practical and emotional support to someone with a disability, chronic or life-limiting illness, mental ill health, has alcohol or other drug dependence or who is frail or aged.

Carer Gateway/Care2Serve are here to support carers, offering free access to practical advice and support.

Call Carer Gateway and register as a carer – 1800 422 737 (press 1 at the menu).

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands and waters upon which we work, live, and sustain ourselves. This land was never ceded, and we acknowledge that the Tasmanian Aboriginal people are its continuing custodians. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

We welcome, support and include carers who may identify as LGBTIQA+, carers with disabilities or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

We value and respect the diversity of carers, their lived and living experiences, and recognise that carers are the experts in their own lives.

Module 6 · About 15 minutes

Caring for the Carer

When you become a carer, your elder, or loved one, or spouse, becomes the focus of most of your time and most of your attention.

In this module, we want to help you find ways to look after yourself. We want to help you put in place some self-care, even though you may feel guilty even thinking about that.

This module offers tools and strategies to reduce stress, boost your resilience, and make self-care a priority without compromising the exceptional care you give to others. This journey is a marathon, not a sprint. You need to maintain strength.

This module will take about 15 minutes to complete.
